I think that she thought Roy had grown, changed, or turned over a new leaf or whatever… He almost had me fooled for a second, too. But it was in the back of my mind that he’d show his true colors

I think the whole bit with “You have to do boyfriend things with me” got Pam thinking and eventually led to the decision to test him.

    Sorry, Roy, you fail.

I think she should have. She saw how he spiraled down after they broke up with his DUI arrest. But she probably thought he had changed but was reverting back to his old self. In reality (tv reality), he just faked being changed to get her back and then went back to not faking it. Remember when Pam’s mom came to the office and Roy was so super sweet and stuff? That, along with Post-Breakup-Roy being nice to Pam, just shows how he can easily fake being the nice guy, but he really isn’t.

Temp, I think you make a really good point. I’d never thought before about how duplicitous Roy truly is, and how much that’s backed up by his past actions on the show.

OK, I think that subconsciously, Pam knew how Roy would react. You can’t change a cat’s stripes, no matter how much he had “changed”. I think, if anything, it was a test that Pam gave Roy…she trusted him with the truth, and he broke a mirror. He failed, and I think that she knew he would. If she didn’t have in inkling that he would fail, she wouldn’t have tested him in the first place.

I think Pam had convinced herself that the post-breakup Roy had become a sort of Jim. If she’d been in a relationship with Jim, she could have told him something like that without fearing he’d tear the place apart. When Roy did what Roy is wired to do, she realized Roy would never be a Jim and could do nothing else but walk away.
